NEW YORK (AP) An 18-year-old girl who killed herself on a bus ride from her suburban New York home to her parents’ home in Massachusetts last week says she wanted to “tell her mommy” she was sorry.

Kristi McBride, who was a senior at Westmont High School in New York City, was found dead by the side of the highway on Friday after she failed to respond to repeated text messages from her mother, who had called the New York police.

Police said McBride had called 911 to report that her father had tried to rob her at gunpoint.

McBride had been living with her mother at her home in the suburb of South Windsor, and her father’s relatives were concerned because McBride was not communicating with her.

McBrides death is the latest in a string of suicides of young women, many of them teens, who have taken their own lives.
